hey guys, and gals
just wanted to share my simple but very effective muffler mod.
I did this to my saw a couple weeks ago and today I used a dremmel (thanx scooterbum) and made the hole bigger, and rounded off all the edges.

Let me tell you this thing has so much torch now it's hard to believe that it is only a 55cc saw.

I have no video capabilities and didn't time anything but I can tell you I burried this thing in some seasoned very hard oak. it slowed down but once it gets into the fat part of the torch curve it just sits down and eats.

all the scratches on the front of the muffler are from it being the first time I ever used a dremmel I wasn't expecting that little thing to be turning the kind of rpm's it was

I'm thinking about welding a short elbow onto this thing to re-direct the exhaust thinking maybe a something that matches the size of the port but then gets a little bigger at the end to deepen the note of the exhaust. kinda like the 5" tailpipe on my dodge that thing rattles in your chest. right now my little husky just rattles in your head LOL

That will make a lot of difference, but you should consider a spark screen of some type. It is amazing how much the saws are choked down because of restricted mufflers.

when I finish modding it I will get a replace-able spark screen mounted on it but for now I will just be very careful not to set anything on fire.

i think 5 inch exhausts are cool if from the turbo back. if theyre just 5 inch tips on 3" exhaust they look like coffee cans clamped on.

you did good on the muffler and elbo wouldnt hurt anything.
the harware store might have some eltrical condiut 3/4 or 1" with bends in it theyre usualy sweeping 45s but you could cut little wedges and make it a 90 kinda like building a chamberd pipe

455 Husqvarna

Now I do not want to be raining on your charcoal, (but I will) but this thing just looking at it hearts my ears. Another point is that the muffler will loose to much heat to rapidly.A cold bit of air hitting a hot piston could spell trouble.Ken

y6eah it's not finished yet I'm going to weld an elbow on to re-direct the exhaust. this should keep enough heat in the muffler to prevent any cold air damage. as far as the noise I don't mind it. some good hearing protection and it doesn't really matter how loud your saw is

As long as you are happy with it. have you enriched the mixture up? I would not want to be a neighbor when you started this thing up for a test run.Ken

yeah I had to richen it up a good bit after I ported the muffler. It's pretty loud but not ear splitting
