low hours Stihl 026 needing Piston & Liner

Just scored a low hours Stihl 026 with scored piston and liner.

it's got less than 30 hours and looks like new.
his kids ran it on straight gas.

it ran but shortly died when I picked it up. compression felt good.
when I got home did a compression check... 190 PSI

yanked off the muffler.. sure enough, deep gouges all over.
removed top end and piston looks worst than liner.

for how bad this looks... really surprised it still did 190 PSI.

who's got the best deal on a good quality Piston & Liner kit for 026?
might as well port and polish while I'm there.

BCorradi is the guy you want for the piston and cylinder. He has OEM kits for around 85$.(Yep, thats piston and cylinder both) He is a super guy to deal with, and very reputable.

What's your guage read on some of your other saws?

it's a snap-on gauge and reads 160 PSI on my 046...
all readings from this gauge has been consistently in range.

have used this gauge enough to be comfortable reading is correct.
I've got another snap-on compression gauge for diesel... if cylinder wasn't already broken down... I'd take another test with second higher range gauge.

If that gauge wasn't there to tell the truth, I'd call BS on that reading.

Same here. It's hard to argue with a known good quality guage like that. Seriously, how is that possible?

Oil or mix in the cylinder?

with compression that good, thought I'd get lucky and do a carb overhaul and be done. but changed my mind after yanking muffler off.

the damage was there .. plain as day... so off came the piston and liner.

Don't know and I'm not sure I have ever read of a psi that high with the oem head and piston. That would be a screamer ported though.

no problems...was doubting the results myself
no pic's ... it didn't happen

have not measured squish yet... soon as a new base gasket comes in. I'm putting her back together after sanding out piston of course.

the good new is bore above port is in fair condition. most of damage occurred exhaust side below port.

don't think I'm going to the trouble of smoothing out ports on old jug.
will do that for new P&L set.

mine is super clean internaly and is barley broke in and doesnt even pull off 160
