I posted a thread yesterday about this saw which I thought was a 357xp. I was gonna pass til I got some advice here and decided to get it.

Craiglist ad said 357xp. The guy was looking at the manual but I asked him to look at the saw and it was a 359.

Not much use. He lived in an apt and his mom had bought it for his dad who hardly used it.

I got it for 225.00 and has the manual, plastic box cover, files etc.

Here are some pics. You can still see the barcode on the bottom from Lowes so it couldn't have been used much.

Now doing some research it seems there was a problem at with the intake boot causing leaks? Is this something that needs to be addressed before putting it to much use? I soon as I scrape up some money I am gonna send it to Mastermind. Also, how can I check how old it is or the year?

The serial number will tell you what year it was made. It is probably the 2 digit in front of a longer string of numbers.

Change the muffler out. The etech models have a very restrictive cat unit. Haven't done it personally but I hear it makes quite the difference.

The ones made before some time in 2006 will have the weak booth clamp, but they don't really fail that often.

Take a look at the serial number, and post it - you see the plate under the lower rear part of the handlebar, when the clutch cover is off.

Yes, you do very good!

The clamp (if it has the plastic one) and muffler can be dealt with when you have it ported.

The case and bar guard would cost about $50. I think one of the carbs that came on that model of saw had some problems, but I can't remember which one it was. If you are going to send it to Mastermind, he could change your muffler and intake boot if needed for a small fee.

It reads

967 04 17-00

S/N 05 43000...other numbers..couldn't make the out in the light. Think 88 is the last.

That mean its an 05? Does this fall under those with problems?

That's what Randy advised. I'm just gonna put that money towards having him mod it as opposed to just ordering one.

Yep, 2005 week 43. The first "line" of numbers are the "part number" for the complete powerhead.

If it hasn't been changed out, it has the weak plastic clamp.

Don't worry about the carb as long as it isn't acting up - most of them don't.

Good to hear, thanks. I will let Randy address it when he gets it.

Randy builds a sick 359. He once said that that model responds better to mods than anything he had done..... that was until ho got ahold of a 562xp. I missed out on a 359 once local, I wont do it again.

They sold 359's at Lowes?

And I ditched the CAT muffler on my 353, and it runs stronger the
More I use it. Cut through some big red oak and maple rounds this morning
like it was warm butter.

Swap out that muffle ASAP.

Regards/ Mike
