I want to muffler mod my new 261. Where can I purchase a new dual or better muffler and do I mod it. Also what else would you recommend that I do toward modifications and where can I get what I need to do it. Thanks

Probably discussed already on this site, but does a muffler mod on a new Stihl void the factory warranty.
It seems most chainsaws here get a modification before the first tank of fuel has been run through it..
Thanks..

A muffler mod would probably void an engine related warranty issue. If your clutch came apart, a handle broke or something like that it would probably still cover that type of issue. Check with your dealer first or better yet read the fine print in the paperwork.

Thanks, will check here..

Yes, absolutely check because I think I've seen it somewhere in one of the many manuals I have and few that I've read, that anything other than "factory specs" voids the warranty... and its not like manufacturer's are looking for an excuse not to honour their warranties. :msp_wink: Check twice, cut once.

depends on your rapport with your dealer.

Buy another muffler to mod, then keep the original until the warranty expires. If anything goes wrong, swap the stock muffler back in and take it to the dealer. You can sell the extra muffler after the warranty expires.

Only problem is that since this is a Stihl, an extra muffler will probably set you back nearly $100, lol!

it is a very clean fit.

Pray tell what size hole is added under that fancy part

$100 for the muffler, may as well toss in another 5 bills and get a saw with it.. haha

If you haven't had a problem in the first couple of tanks, chances are very good that you won't have any problems during the warranty period. If you do the mod and then have a problem while in warranty, then buy a new muffler and trade it to someone who has a used one on their saw. But needing to swap one out is unlikely.

Modded 261 in different size wood:

Just buy a new muffler to mod and set aside the original. If you need warranty work, put the original back on. After the warranty is up, sell the extra muffler on eBay.

Hello at all

I would ask every body about return of expérience of muffler mod on ms 261 Electronic ( or not Electronic )

The first modif have 6 or 7 years now

So What about the gain of power after long time of use ?

What about éventual fail or broken engine ?

Or else news

Thanks a lot for answer
