Stihl MS362 Felling Spike

Hello, My Stihl MS362 Felling spike is not long enough to grip when cutting. I am aware that Baileys catalog has a set of 2 dogs for my saw, but this seems like overkill. I only want to use one dog. I don't see any single dogs for sale. Are there any single dogs for sale to fit my saw that are just a little longer than the original?

Not sure, but one long dawg does not work all that well. I have had it when one has broken off and it is definitely not the same. If you go longer, I would just go with two. You are able to just purchase one side or the other from a Stihl dealer; doesn't have to be the pair. You could get it and try.

A guy can run the inner dog just fine, or the inner and outer -- you never want to just run the dog on the cover though. Another thing I see, is guys running mismatched spikes on their saws -- you don't want to do that either. . . You're just begging for a bind.

I've been making and selling bucking spikes, but they're not the small version. I find the smaller spikes on saws are about worthless. The whole reason to have a dog on a saw is to be able to use it.

It's a pivot point, especially when facing a tree.

I believe the dual dog kit for a ms361 has a slightly larger spike. You can also buy just the inner spike for a dual dog kit if you don't want the duals.

Now that I think about it, I think a inner spike from a dual spike kit for a 440 would work also. Guys correct me if I am wrong but I seem to remember someone putting the 440 dual spike kit on a 026 or ms261. It might be kinda weird looking but it sounds like a solution to your problem.

I never thought about this before. My old saw was a husky 257 that I had 17 years before it gave out. It had one dog that gripped just fine. This new Stihl just has one that wasn't designed right. If the spikes were 1/4inch longer, it would probably grip just fine.

These dogs are just right for the 024 through MS362.

Same size as stock, but with the addition of the lower spike and roller chain catcher. Huge improvement in bucking and felling.

Yes, but the 362 dawg is completely worthless -it is essentially cosmetic only. Just needs to be a 1/4" longer to be effective for most of my uses. Some Stihl number cruncher won the day over a design engineer as I believe it is a carryover from the older series. Ron

You cheap bas***d just buy the set and get it over with. Now that you mention it, I have been wanting to get felling spikes for my MS362 but don't want to pay for them. Send me your extra one.

Thanks for the replies, sounds like I may have to make one. You wouldn't think a company like Stihl would go so far to cut corners.
