Tried to get out for some milling at the local city log dump a couple times last week but the weather was foul. Tuesday 50mm of rain (2") was called for, and I think we got all of it. Thursday was not much better. By Saturday things were barely fit for man and beast!

A windstorm came by on Saturday night and cleared things up for Monday.

So on Tuesday my bowl turning friend and I managed to get down there. Weather was dull but not threatening.

I brought out both mills on my 3120s and a 36" bar on the 390 for bucking.

We brought three slabs down with us that we had milled a couple weeks ago, my buddy cut them into smaller pieces to use for bowl blanks.

The crew set up 5 small chunks for us with the loader. First was this maple that had a couple nice crotch sections in it. We milled it into 4" thick slabs and my buddy cut it into bowl blanks.

Then there were three other pices of figured maple, plus a chunk of birch.

We milled the largest of the three into 4" slabs also, they had some really nice colour in them (sorry no pic!) as well as some burl. These were probably our best pieces. Also some ambrosia bettle action.

The others we cut in half and then used the mill to cut them into either 6" or 8" thick blanks for bowls or hollow vessel turnings.

For such small pieces of wood they sure filled up the van!

We didn't leave much, just some bark and a few cracked and knotholed sections.

There is still a ton of stuff available for milling. The milling area closes in mid May-ish since at that time the beach starts to busy up with families and picnicers. So we have our work cut out to mill our way through all this!

Actually, most of this pile is too junky to be worth milling. There are still a few cherry logs left, as well as more maple, some elm, etc. I hope to be back at it again soon!

You gonna need to start taking more photo's, that way we won't be going through withdrawals once the beach is open to the natives!

Thanks for taking the time to photo this stuff....I know it has to cut into getting things done at the site. Unless you use it as a excuse for taking a break from the saws!!

Scott (I do that, take breaks and often) B
