In the Jeep world we call those depth finders. I always said if you are going to get stuck get stuck like a rock star. If it was that soft re you going to be able to get pulled out?
No, but when I tried to recover it using my '78 F250 I damaged the manual transmission on the old girl. Pops out of reverse now and is making growling noises. Not good. Had to get my farmer neighbor with a giant tractor to pull me out with ease. Spent the next 3 hours cleaning clay out of every nook and cranny on the underside. Truck seems to be OK though. Every Spring when the ground thaws we get frost "boils" or "heaves", and the problem is made worse if you haven't thrown several tons of rock down within the past few years. I bit the bullet and had 34 tons of 3" minus limestone graded into the soupy mess. Once that sets I'll have it graded again and some finer stuff thrown down. I got lots of stories about the joys of country living in Minnesota
