Why not Beeswax or Mink Oil.
Mink oil is great for waterproofing. There's also neatsfoot oil for leather conditioning.
I remember my dad would condition his work boots and our baseball gloves with mink oil and leave them near the woodstove over night.

There are many good leather treatments, some better/ best for some uses/ purposes. Johnson Wax does list leather as a use for theirs, but users will have to define whether shine, or waterproofing or extending article life or flexibility?
