From HERE :

The new products include the STIHL MSA 160 C cordless chainsaw,
which sets new standards in power, technical features and the user
friendliness of cordless power tools.

yeah thats all well and good, we can all go and read their view on something they are patting their own back for. i'm asking for first hand knowlege from a dealer who has run a demo or maybe somebody in a different region that may already be selling them.

Here is the video for it. Sure would like to demo one!

That could be a really neat saw and fit in well for light use.

I wonder what cost would be?

It isn't much but there has been a small amount of info on the carvers forum. Search "cordless Stihl". You might also post an inquiry too. carvingpost

So far, it sounds great but potentially stratospherically priced.

i can just see it plastered all over as
MODIFED ELECTRIC STIHL
A MILLION LI PO BATTERYS
To be honest I might get one for carving as noise is an issue where i live and would mind carving

i wouldn't mind getting into one for that very reason:rock: been around the nitro and electric rc scene for quite some time. and with the quality and power of these newer brushless motors and the newer lipo and liion i'm sure one could make one of these really quite fast. depending on how it works out of the box, maybe they're already good enough--maybe but i don't think so:D nuttin's good enough outta da box:rock:

Makita have had cordless electric saws for quite a few years, using batteries common with other Makita power tools.

The latest version is a 36V top handled saw.

With Makita's expertise with LiIon batteries and motors, and also owning a chainsaw company I'm guessing it'd be good.

hey rick, that kita looks good, but does anybody have some run time on one? how long does it go on a charge? how is it power wise?
weight? balance :hmm3grin2orange: side balance:hmm3grin2orange:

You been taking Niko pills ?

Looking at it I reckon balance is why they've made it a top handle, the batteries go in the bum.

I doubt i'd buy one, chain speed is a limiting factor with these, looking at the specs. Only 4000RPM.

i had to throw that side balance thing in there:clap:
sheesh! 4000rpm huh?
hmmmm, a couple of good 750 size can motors and good speed controllers would take care of that:jester:
that 4000 rpm would turn into 15-20 000 rpm pretty quick:dizzy:
even a good set of 550 brushless motors and a couple of controllers would do that justice. lots of options..... especially with that big batt sitting there:givebeer:
