Now I am no expert on the Stihl 070, I have no idea when they were discontinued here in the US. What I do know is that there are Chinese 070 being sold as original and would like people to do a little research before purchasing these saws. The Chinese have also done a bang up job of copying the Stihl ms380 and quite a few Husqvarnas. There are how ever tale tale signs of these saws being fake and they are small, I am not saying the saw for sale is a fake but hope someone will at least make sure that it is not by doing some research.

I don't know of any solid ones, I have seen a lot of the points people say on fakes and real ones.

-Stihl markings on muffler, although no white spot, wouldn't take a lot to fake.
-both black and grey coil wires.
-what appears to be the correct screws.
-"Stihl knots" on the recoil cord.
-I haven't actually seen a fake with "Made in Germany" on the recoil tag, but again that wouldn't take a lot.

3/8th pitch might be relevant. 070 was offered in 1/2" and .404", MS720 in .404". But who knows what is offered in Asia, Africa etc

The oil line may also be worth looking at, I believe if the saw has a plastic model tag it should have the press fitted oil line (and corresponding different crankcase), like the MS720. None of the fake saw pictures I can find give you a good look.

The serial number would probably be anyones best bet. Although it won't be registered I can give you an approx date for the serial and I would highly doubt it would be coherent with the tech updates etc

OR

Better yet don't buy what looks to be a new 070, you are asking for trouble, along with the Husky 365 Special and Stihl MS250, 380 and 381 it is known to have loads of fakes floating around.

I'm an all-orange user, so.....given my lack of knowledge re Stihl particulars:

These ARE unauthorized Chinaband knockoffs, correct??? Man, if so, that's dirty....

Loius Vuitton bags are one thing but, chainsaws....NO :msp_scared:

It is becoming an increasing problem, situation with Husky 365 isn't a lot better.

What Husqvarna's have been faked? I know the 365 has, are there others?
Thanks

I believe the Stihl warning is about a different kind of fakes - that doesn't even look like the originals?

The ones this is about are a lot closer to the originals, unless I got it all wrong.....:msp_scared:

Dear Moderator, I am not trying to sell these saws or promoting their business, I am just pointing out how these saws are illegally being copied and then sold online as the real deal to unsuspecting enthusiasts who have no idea that they are being scammed.

Thank You

You did not get it wrong, in my research I found a exact copy of a MS290 made in China, and as we all know the MS290 is made in the US.

sorry misunderstood you, I will look for a Stihl saw that does not resemble any Sthil product and let you know what I find.

I didn't mean the crappy saw shown at the start. About half way through the video shows the destruction of what appears to be fake Stihl 070/090 crankcases that are clearly marked Stihl and have a Stihl part number.

Pictures are in

You decide, looks pretty good to me!

he never answered any questions but at least sent pics! His name is CARL and I have his phone number, if you want it.. PM me as I will not post it here. I'm not sure but he probably doesn't know much about saws due to not answering questions, this is pure speculation, maybe he doesn't want to answer. Let the pics speak for themselves.

Looks dodgy to me, not worth the risk. We know it isn't 30 years old, so what else is wrong...

-kill switch, never seen that "box" under it before.
-the shroud etc is held on by allen bolts I think they should be slotted head.
-black screws hold on the rear handle, should be gold/silver.
-coil wire is black, never seen a real one with that but have seen fakes with grey or black.
-the cylinder looks to be black.
-has avoided a closeup of the oil line and muffler...
-no picture of the recoil badge, convenient...

Did he give the serial number?

BTW that saw looks identical to this;
Wholesale Stihl 070 Chain saw with 36" SOLID GUIDE BAR + Free Shipping

-Also muffler looks to be held to cylinder with black allen bolts, should be studs and gold/silver nuts.

-Since when has the tank gasket been black? (I might be wrong on this, I thought all Stihl marketed gaskets were green/yellow)
