I've been thinking about doing a muffler mo on my ms391 and ms440, and would love to see some of your mod jobs as a refrence point for mine. I'm new to this and my CAD is growing out of control since I joined this site. When I joined this site I just had a stihl 180, now within a couple monthes I have a new ms 391 and I just bought a used ms440 off ebay. My wife is not pleased!

It works for me...I even copied it into a new browser and it pulls the results there too.

Regardless, all you have to do is type "muffler mod pictures" into the search box and hit enter.

For the 440... it's as simple as bolting on a stock dual port muffler cover from a 460 on it. Then retune the carb. You can get them new from your Stihl dealer. Factory part.

There are many threads here, at least one of them even includes a video.

I'm also getting an error when I click the other link, possibly yet another glitch :msp_thumbdn: in the ArboristSite search "function."

Edit: Y'all have no idea how much self-restraint I used when I saw that Hammerhand is from
Limmerick. Joatmon, where are you?

Why, whats the problem with that?

Community limerick (I'll start):

There once was a guy from Texas....

There's nothing wrong with being from Limmerick. I made a joke (not at your expense) that apparantly flew way under the humor radar.

Aha! Somebody gets the joke. If you're familiar with limericks, you can appreciate how easy it would be to rhyme limmerick. BTW finding a rhyme for Texas is kind of like finding a rhyme for orange :msp_tongue:.

There is a man from Limmerick,
who has a really large ????.
Popular with the lasses he 'taint,
frequent is their complaint
"That was over too damn quick!"

Here's the one i just did on my 576xp. I havn't put it in the wood yet because im in the process of semi restoring. Throttle response has improved greatly though.

it has had a rough life. I just picked it up in its current condition about a month ago. I couldn't say no for $120 though. Compression test showed 150psi and the piston/cylinder are in great shape.

like i said, im in the process of bringing it back to life.

I'd be a little concerned about the outlet proximity to the chain brake handle. It's not hard to melt stuff.

its painted now and back on, I'll try to grab another picture of it. Its not as close as it looks, its tucked pretty far in actually. Ive done many like this, never had an issue.
