I am certainly not finding anything on you-tube that even resembles the MS261 carb...I think the nuts down in the plastic shroud are 8mm but 8mm 1/4 deep well will not fit, tapered 7 fits but not the nuts, ...Special tool required? Anyway here are pictures of where I am at at the moment. thankful for any and all input at this point..

I had a similar problem when working on a km130...I just hunted for my thinnest walled socket and bashed it on with a gentle wallop

When I bashed it on it was important that the nut and socket were orientated together

It's an 8mm/5/16, whichever you choose. I just sacrificed a socket on the bench grinder.

My mind didn't even go that direction!! Man I'm glad there are sites like this!!

So, I am taking it I didn't need to pull the carb to pull the cylinder on this ms261? ...Seems it all just came apart in one piece., ...except the gas line came off the tank..Hoping that is not too hard to get back on. Cylinder looks pretty good, will just replace piston and go with it I guess.

Let's see that cylinder

Wife just walked out and saw this mess, and said...."Is this when ya throw it all in a box and take it somewhere they know what they are doing".......Ye of little faith!! I'm getting there!!upload_2019-9-28_17-44-47.png

Anybody got any hints for getting the piston and rings back into the cylinder? I'm using the red compression ring...But after an hour and a half, not even one ring in. They are lined up, I squeeze, and push down.....Same result, red ring moves down but piston ring just pops out too wide to go in.

I push the piston in up to the first ring, then compress the ring with my fingernails while keeping an upward pressure on the piston, it will go in.
Of course one needs a certain amount of self control........
