Hi, New to the forum and I have a question about an old and dented Pioneer P28 Electronic chainsaw I just acquired. It is yellow and green and looks in good but used condition. I have never run it since I got it. I want to fire it up but inside the recoil housing which I have removed is a piece of wire bent with a number of 90 degree angles that I am sure fits into a flat metal bracket at the side of the recoil starter inside the housing. I don't know how or why this wire needs to be there but it was inside the housing when I got the saw. I have looked on line for a manual or other help for the P28 but no luck, other than finding this forum. If anyone has an idea of how this bent wire fits into the housing could you help me out?

It fits in the slot that kicks up the starter gear, while the legs are held in place, and also this contraption depresses the compression release.

Yup....that wire pushes the decomp on the cylinder when you pull the rope.Thats what they called ''Easy Arc '' starting. ARC stands for ''automatically reduced compression''. Wish I was home ,I could take a picture of one and show you .I think if you go to Rottmansales.com you can download a parts diagram, that may help.

This is a pict of a Farm Saw but it is really just about the same as an P28.

Using modern mix oil from Stihl, Husqvarna or other brand name oil then you can safely run 40:1 mix in any of the vintage saws.

While we're here could someone have some advice or know of a thread where I could acquire some information on repairing my Pioneer P28. The pull start no longer reels back in.

edit: nevermind. I need a new coil/spring for a P28 saw.
