Goin to look at a Stihl 08 after I get off work. The search feature on the site isn't working right now. What should I look out for. Its supposed to run and cut good, seems cheap! Whats a good price for it?

Do a Google search and if you want to just look in the Arboristsite, then use that as one of your key words in your search.

Check out the one in my garage pics.
Not something you'd wanna handle all day.
Not a very fast saw either.....slow and steady.Watch out for crank bearings on a saw of that age.
Might wanna put a new fuel line and carb kit in it.
My grandfather used his for 40+ years heating the farm house until it threw the rod one day:msp_ohmy:

I have an 08S, but have never tried to run it.

Im interested in any part of that saw.
The 08's and 08S's have significant sentimental value to me :msp_thumbup:
I'd be happy with the oil reservoir with pump, felling dogs and handle. Thats all I'm needing to rebuild my next one!!

Brads restored 08s

Just wanted to say that you've worked some serious magic restoring that old 08s. I bet it never left the factory looking that good. Nice job. Im just waiting for UPS to drop off an 08 I picked up for beer money the other day. It will be my first Stihl (they were all plain orange up till now) and if it ends up looking half that good I'll be really happy. I'll have to get on the manual begging thread.

Only weak point on the 08S is the governor. It tends to wear out choke shafts on the carb. Can't say I've seen an 08. We sold the 08S when it was new, along with the similar S10. The 08S was the only saw we rented out since it was near indestructable and had an air-on-choke governor. Almost as weird a saw as the 041 gear-drive.

You guys are making me miss my 08s I had:cry: Hey Brad can you restore cars that well? Ill send you my stang, They only made 917 with my options kinda rare. Needs LOTS of love though, North East winters eat cars.
