I have a sthil 040 that has a 16" hard nose bar with the sawtooth logo stamped or engraved (dont know). Does anyone know when stihl stopped putting the old logo on the bars.

were they painted back then? So if I wanted to restore mine. I was actually thinking of restoring the while saw (new paint, ect.)

The ones I've seen were all bare metal.

What you need to remember with these is that the powerheads and bars were sent to dealers seperate.

The dealer is the one who hung the bar and sold it. On the old engraved bars many had a date stamp on them.

If you are restoring a saw sometimes the best you can do is, "period correct"
unless it came with that saw new.

So what would you guess would be the proper bar for an 07S? I'd prefer a Stihl bar on it if they came with either Stihl or other brands. I think the one on it is Oregon.

BTW, I have a couple with the double stripes on them. They're on my 045 Super and 020AV.

Two of my Contra's, both 1962 stamped, only have date stamp near the mounting slot and had been painted blue then I have on large mount bar that is dated 1967 with the stamped logo.

The original stihl bars are much harder to find than the bar maker brands.

Any saw that got used went through a few bars and the junkers got tossed.

Finding those nice or NOS stihl bars is worth buying a saw to match it too.

I collect general brand bars in NOS condition. most are rollers..

I also have many of the stihl log stamp bars and some nice decaled one too but they are a toughy to find.

here's the 090 with the shortest large mount made. :D
