I just got the stihl puller from my dealer for $10 even. Maybe this means I have a good dealer...

Well I doubt it fits both sizes of flywheel threads as I have yet to see one that does that is sold by Stihl,

Also as Paul said your parts guy screwed up. I will have to look but I think $10 is under dealer cost.

I believe it fits anything from 660 and smaller. For me that covers more than I need.

I would be surprised if it was under dealer cost. They looked it up in front of me and they were aware it was a tool and not a part.

I built mine for free. I took a 3/4 length equivalent metric bolt (we'll sat 22x1.5 for example purposes) and chucked it in the drill press. drilled the center of that bolt out to 6mm plus a little and put a 6mm bolt with a nut threaded on it; of longer proportions thru the drilled 22mm bolt and tacked the 6mm nut to the head of the 22mm bolt with the Lincoln mig; and presto, chango...a flywheel puller emerged from the cloud of shielding gas...:kilt:

Sounds sweet...Post a pic or two...

moped shop has been out of stock for some time. Probably sell two a year until these postings started and now they wonder WTF is going on....

tks for the Treatland name, $17.60 to my door.
good to order it before I need it. jaw pullers and screwdrivers 'work' but this is cheap enough.
Have several motorcycle ones, but both 22 and 26 on those are left hand threads.......

I recently found that the thread on steel pipe fits perfectly...anyone have the torque specs for the flywheel nut on a 660?

+1 I think its a 3/4" threaded pipe 2 sided connector. fits like a glove. tack a nut to the top of one side and bolt through the nut and it will pull good. now if someone can show me how to get a stuck clutch off an old 028 I'ld be real happy.

Without snapping the crank? :)

Soak the threads best you can with PB Blaster and let it sit for a day or two. Use a heat gun to slowly warm up the clutch/threads and use an impact driver (not gun) don't go crazy with a 12 lbs sledge, make sure to use a proper piston stop, and have the saw securely suported so as not to break the housing or damage the fly wheel.

It may take a few cycles of the PB/sit for a day/heat gun/repeat.

You and 028's...

Note, remember the clutches are reverse thread. Most impact drivers are setup for right hand threads only. I have an older unit that can be changed for left hand threads...if you don't, don't do the above method

Thanks Paul,
So far I'm on my third 028 trying to get ONE together....obviously its not that pressing or valuable of an issue or it would have made its way down to Bristol for some TLC. Ive been trying to lube/heat/repeat for a while...must be operator error. The tools are good but the operator is in question as usual.

thanks
Hope your busy !

Treatland is out of stock. Mopedshop didn't have the proper size. The thread on the pipe fitting I tried didn't fit very well. Besides a Stihl dealer any other options? I'm looking for the 1.5x26 thread but it'd be nice to have one that fits both large and small Stihls. I try to avoid ebay but that may be a last resort.

Try MBS Manufacturing (mbsmfg.com). Looks like they have the single 1.5x26, but not the dual version.

I just picked up two Stihl pullers at my local Stihl dealer (Arrow in North Vancouver, BC), one (032 etc.) was just under $10cad and the one for my 090 was about $18 (and they apologized for the higher cost of that one!!) Can't go wrong there! They keep amazing me, getting me factory parts for less than internet prices.

OK.....For those of you that are cheap scroungers like me, I did some research and found out that among other things, Bosch diesel injection equipment used the 26x1.5 threads in various places on their injection pumps, etc.

I own a heavy equipment wrecking yard, so I was able to scrounge "in house".

Here's the check valve plug out of a Bosch injection pump off of a John Deere engine.......Stay tuned. It's going to become my puller for the large stihl flywheels.

Hopefully this helps another "handy" AS member or two as well.......My Stihl dealer wants $55 for the real deal.
