I bought a 042 av a couple of days ago, and it is a very tight machine mechanically; but the ignition module will not produce a spark. Is their any other saws that may use the same module?

That flywheel/ignition is only used on the 042AV,,, and as you likely know, is NLA..
Contrair Po Bear. The 048 used the same SEM modual .The 042 also lists a Bosc .Strangely I have a Bosc on one of my 048's,perhaps it was changed?
The SEM number is 1117-400-1300.the Bosc is 1117-400-1305.

I don't know what it would fit but MFG supply lists a replacement but give the numbers as 0000-400-1300 for about 80 bucks.

Another real oddity is my IPL of the 048 lists a condenser and points.Wonder what that's all about?

Al, using your #'s I was able to track the bosc coil to a part # 1122-400-1314. It is listed for $103.00. My problem is that this coil is for a 046, but the saw shop I called insists that it is the replacement in their data base.

The one of the 048 replacements is the 0000 400 1300 and is found on many Stihl saws. Stihl doesn't show that as a replacement for the 042 though, so maybe some flywheel change or issue?

I don't see any references to the 1122 module.

Which flywheel do you have?

This is all I could find on the flywheel.

Stihl Sweden
100 486 00
AM/115E --> 12

Is the coil off a Ms440 the same as a 046? If so I can take mine off and see if it can bolt up, but I just do not see it working with what I have.

In looking at the IPL s of both the 042 and 048 it gets a little confusing on my part.It is my assumption that the flywheels would indeed have to match up to the coils.

I'm not real sure what the deal is on my 048 with the Bosc coil ,it came that way.In a former life it was a west coast faller at one time.

As for the SEM's,I found a couple on e-bay,for cheap ,that work. How 'bout that. I've never seen a Bosc go up for sale as of yet, unless I missed it.

The saws themselves still seem to fetch a pretty good price.Pretty good cutters ,both models.

I'm guessing, but Sweden probably means SEM. Is there anything written on the ignition module?

The 440 and 460 ignitions are different. The 440 is the 0000-400-1300 module.

Lakeside, I did not see anything on the module. If you would like I can take a picture of what I have. Thanks for the help Al and Lakeside. I do not work on many Stihls, and do not have any books on them to learn from like the rest of the saws that I have.

042/048 coil

This is a picture of an SEM coil ,sitting on top of the fastest Mini Mac in the world[I wish];) .If it doesn't look like this ,it's likely the Bosc version.

Oh,an after thought. It just so happens that a couple of members here have e-bay selling accounts. It might behoove you to take a peek on e-bay if in fact it is a Bosc coil you are looking for. They say a word to the wise is sufficiant.

Hi Al, It looks just like the SEM coil. Could I possible change it over to bosc, or try to find another SEM. Also I guess the flywheel would be different for the two coils as well.
