Homelite 3100G

Hello, everyone. I have a Homelite 3100G chainsaw. This saw has a 54" bar and sports a 1/2 " pitch full chisel chain. This saw is 7.0 cubic inches around 114cc's. The "G" designation is the term "gear Driven" this saw has an 3:1 reduction gear case on it. Needless to say this saw is unstopable. I have found that any log under 36" diameter is a guppy, and a waste of time for this saw. After loggers had harvested a friend land they had left 3-6 foot high stumps everywhere. This one stump was a twin tree and about 4' at the base and about 6' high. This good old Homelite mowed right through it in one cut. The nose of the bar was close to being burried. Ths coolest thing was that the tree was sitting on to of the hungry bar for the last 1/3 of the cut. That didn't even effect the saw.

What a Saw!!

Man now that is a chain saw. I have no need for such a brute but it is one of those that I would like to use just to say I had, know what I mean? I have a 028 Stihl and a good ol' $100 Poulan Pro.

Do you use that brute Homelite often?

I don't use the saw very often, any tree under 40" in diameter is a guppy, and a waste of time for this big unit. I use it when I need to, and I am glad I have it.

I have a couple of those two man Malls like in your pic. I have nerver messed with them. One should run but I have not found the time to put it together. They do not have big bars on then though probably 48" or so. The chain is probably 3/4 pitch.

Hi John,
Got the 3100g a couple weeks ago on ebay.Needed starter
pawls,pawl springs, pawl studs, a sprocket gear and chain.Bill Wolcott was able to fix me up.Opened up the gearbox and found a crack in the clutch spider and the clutch cover broken.Bill is
tracking down the cover.Saw needed a good cleaning,muffler
screen replacement and carbon deposit removal in muffler and
on exhaust port.The 36" bar with roller nose is in very good shape
but they were trying to run 1/2" .058 chain in a .063 bar.This
is only the fifth saw(and oldest) I have gone through.Just a
hobby-but it doesn't get much better!

homelite 2100 hot saw

hello jonathan,
nice to see your post on the 3100 g but you forgot to tell them about your 2100 direct drive. the 2100 is the same saw as the 3100 only its direct drive. its also 7.0 cubic inches and its a very fast. with two tillotsons and a gem 12 pedal reed assembly it is a very fast hot saw. i've sent three photos of it for the boys to look at

upcut

Here's a photo of of jonathan's 2100 making a upcut throwing out some chips. this was taken in the development stages and we were runing a single tillotson hr-191 carb, later changed to 2 tillotson 360's. it was faster with the daul 360's. anyway jonathan has pretty well cornered the market on the 2100 and 3100g homelights. Thats where he got the homedelight name

tillotson 360 carb

Hello Huskyman,
The 360 is a new carb that tillotson built to replace the hl series carb that were used on some of the older big chainsaws, 090 stihl and the 2100 homelight used the hl 324 tillotson. The new 348,360, and 355 hl's have no provision for a choke and a infinate radius radius .900 thousand diameter venturi. they are racing carbs engineered for 2 and 4 stroke kart engines but they are a bolt on replacement for certain chain saw carbs. we usually have to build a replacement intake manifold for the 5 and 6 cube saws.
I inclosed a photo of the tillotson ht-1 that comes stock on the 084-088 stihl saws. i use this carb on a lot of modified saws, it will run as good but requires a lot of modification to match the hl-360. the photo shows a modified ht-1 and a stock ht-1

the hd series tillotson with a 1.5 inch venturi is used on snowmobiles but i've fitted some on the old mac kart engines, they run great
