Getting the saws ready for the GTG tomorrow and find a air leak in the transfer cover on the 359. I did a search and it seems that all of the ported 359's were reassembled with rtv as mine was. This is my second leak and second piston so my question is, does anyone know the trick to ordering the factory gaskets? Looked at the parts break on this saw several times and can not find them. I tossed another P&C on to get me by for the GTG but will want the ported cyl back on sometime. Any help would be appreciated.
 
Is that right,all ported 359's have RTV instead of a gasket on the transfer covers.Who ported your saw?I will have to check with Brad and see what he used on mine.I don't want to replace any pistons.
 
Need to clarify. I did a search and all of the ported 359's found had been reassembled with rtv. I did not see your saw in that group. I did the port work. I have ported dozens of saws with no issues but this is the only 359 I have done. I caught the first leak but this time my father in law had the saw and did not know any better. I may just have to cut my own gaskets but they are thin and look difficult to copy.
 
I don't use RTV on anything. It's not fuel proof. I've put 359s back together both with and without gaskets. If going gasketless, I use ThreeBond 1194. It is fuel proof. I've even used it to seal metal fuel tank halves and never had a leak. Use the right sealant and it's not a problem. Lots of guys like to take short cuts and use sealants like RTV. It's not worth the risk.
 
Will check the local parts store for threebond. The rtv I use is mopar brand, factory recommended fuel proof for mass air flow sensors, trans pans, etc. Not saying this isn't my issue but I have used it for years for base gaskets with no problems. Was hoping someone would know how to get the gaskets, that would be a short cut.
 
Husky doesn't offer the gaskets or the security screws on the transfer port covers on the 359 as replacement parts because they don't want people going in there...

I cut new gaskets for mine, came out nice but a PITA.
I put a little bluing on the covers & laid them on gasket material, cut them with exacto knife, made the holes with a hole punch.

Yup, it looks like fun. Will have to do it some morning before I get into the coffee. Ran it today with a stock cyl and mm, this saw does not disappoint either way. Thanks for your help guys.
