I have had all the parts for this mod for a whie and just found the time to put it all together. The doner saw was a mint condition late model 051 and the objective was to bolt on an 075 P&C for a 22cc gain. the following is a total list of parts needed:

P&C for a ts760/gasket
cylinder studs, nut, and washers for a ts760
#9 drill
M6x1 taper tap
M6x1 plug tap
grease to coat tap to gather swarf
intake manifold for a ts760
aluminium baffel for ts760/2 gaskets
muffler for a ts760/gasket
(5) 5mm x 30mm bolts
(5) 3/8" long pieces of metal tubing with inside diameter large enough for a 5mm bolt.

the mod is all pretty much straight forward with the exception of the cylinder studs. The 051 uses 5mm bolts and the 075 requires 6mm studs. drilling and taping the holes was pretty straightforward and the grease on the tap makes it cut like butter.

I am sure there is a part#'s for the last two items in my list but they kind of cought me by surprise and I just used what I had on hand. They are used as stand offs to attach the muffler guard. As you can probably guess I picked up a toasted ts760 the muffler and manifiold and baffel. those parts are pretty hard to ruin. The one last detail I need to address is a spark arester screen. It seems the version ts760 that my muffler came from didn't have one. Any sugestions?

I will be milling a 40" diameter walnut this comming week and will get a chance to take this puppy out for a spin.

Since most 051's did not have the manual oiler backup, make sure that the auto oiler is SOAKING the chain. This will be important on wood this big. Good luck.

sounds like you have the wrong exhaust cover for that muffler but I see what your idea is you could get the right one and it would look better.Exactly what I did as well but the project saw was an 075 supplemented with ts 760 parts tank, muffler, muffler guard p/c

Hope it goes well - just did this and was very straight forward. Had to use the 076 muffler cover though...

harry -
what piston did you use-a kit or a used saw?

used saw, and big mistake. I did get all the other parts, but the barrel is pretty shot (got a new piston). Seriously after a new/2nd hand jug now. Have been toying with the idea of getting a new aftermarket. But now decided I don't want second best. If I can't find a good 2nd hand one, I'll save up for a new OEM. they're £250 here, how much in the States?

I'd really love it if someone hooked me up with a used one though...

$342 DOLLARS PLUS TAX FOR OEM MAHLE P/C I'M GOING TO USE THE AFTERMARKET TS760 CUTOFF SAW P/C IT $150 PLUS SHIPPING, THE PARTNUMBER FOR THE TS760 AND 076 P/C ARE THE SAME PER MY DEALER. I'M IN THE PROCESS OF CLEANING MY 051 BEFORE I REMOVE THE OLD CYLINDER TO BEGIN THE PROCESS MYSELF. THE INTAKE MANIFOLD ON THE 051 SHOULD WORK ON THE 076 P/C I'LL POST MY PICS AS I DO IT.:chainsaw:

The intake on an 051 is smaller than the one on a TS 760. the distance between the bolt holes is different so it really can't be modified. I paid $30 for a new one from my local dealer. the one off the trashed Ts760 had a broken carb stud and I couldn't get it out before it went flying across the yard with a broken ez-out in it.

I probably should have mentioned in my original post that this mod is only simple on a late model 051(the version with the oil cap on the side). On an early model the ts760 P&C will not be a simple bolt on as there are a pair of slots in the case that are not covered by the base of the piston.

I used a new OEM TS 760 P&C I found on ebay, I think I paid around $170 for it but I'm not sure.

hmm, that's £172... Do you have to pay tax if it's being bought overseas? Bluerider's right about the 051 intake, it's quite different

any one have pictures or a detailed description of these "slots" on the 051 case that arent covered by the 760 cylinder...im hoping to do this in about a month...would like to get all the info i canbefore then

I don't have any pics but here is a scan of an 051 gasket ontop of a ts760 gasket. the area that is circled is where you will have problems. there is about .020" on each side that is not covered by the cylinder. I should also mention that you will also have to do a bit of grinding of the case on the flywheel side for clearance of the base of the clyinder.

I had originaly intended to mod my older 051 by makeing a metal "gasket" out of .060" alumiunum and taking a .040" fly cut off the bottom of the jug and running without a paper gasket. After seeing Harry's post about his saw I decided to mod my newer 051 because it was so much easier.

That does it for me, I just ordered a new p/c from Bailey's for the 051 mine is a 72 to 74 yr model the first ones they made to much to modify

William, I am running a similarly old 051--did you have any issues once you bought the new jug/piston from Bailey's... Any recommendations for someone who's going to try the same thing? Thanks!
