Hi,
My 011AV (I want a saw to cut with while the 039 is down) goes through a ridiculous amount of gas, in my opinion. I get lucky if I can cut up 2 8" oaks on a tank of gas. I can go 1 hour+ of solid cutting with my 039 on a tank. Why does my 011 use gas so bad (also, I don't have the top handle model)? Any ideas? I just hate filling it up so often.

Might just be that the 011 has a tiny tank and isn't actually going through gas at a faster rate.

Seems like it eats a gallon of gas a lot faster. When I'm cutting a bit of wood with it, I go through gallon after gallon. When I cut the same amount with my 039, I don't go through much.

Is the 011 a reed saw rather than a ported saw. Maybe it's spitting a lot of gas out of the carb.

I have seen reed saw that has a chunk of wood that holds open a reed and wastes gas.

It's a reed saws, but that's not likely the problen.. Check the vent tube is connected and has the grub screw in it...

What have you done to service it? Remember, the air filter gets dirty on the bottom.

Ahh! Now I remember another reason I hated cutting with that dang thing-
The air cleaner would PLUG very quickly. Stupid spot for it, with no pre cleaner. Big chips of wood would be stuck to the air cleaner.

It is great for little trimming and stuff, but it just isn't enough to cut a decent amount of wood with. I don't know how my grandpa could cut 10-12 cords per year with it for a few years (he now has an 034 after a relative wrecked his 031 after borrowing it).

Another reason I want the 039 running again. I almost want to sell the thing, and use that and extra money to buy a used 044.

I know it's a long shot, but my old XL12 that I had (reed valve fuel delivery), had a very small vacuum leak where the carb mounted to the little plastic spacer... This was causing the jetting in the carb to be fat resulting in a lot of fuel consumption... In fact it would guzzle through a tank in anywhere from 10 minutes to 30 minutes depending on whether or not it was idling a lot or being used... I could not even get 1 small tree (8 - 10 inch diameter) cut up with it... Fixed the leak after discovery and didn't have any further fuel consumption problems after retuning...

Just a thought.

Hmm... Mine has a plastic spacer. :D It downs a tank in about 15 min. I think I'm going to get it going to cut with this weekend while I wait on 039 parts.

Yep sounds like my old XL12 :D I remember when I first started using that old saw "after I had gotten it up and going", I remembered being happy at first, went and started trimming up an old walnut tree, didn't even make it 1/3 the way through the tree when it died, wondered what was wrong, cranked a few times, pulled the fuel cap off and dang, empty all ready :dizzy:

Got ticked off after that short use and grabbed up my old C5 and finished up the rest of the tree ;)

You might consider checking it? I know it wound up leading to slight piston damage even with what little use I had in it, before figuring out what the problem was...

My 011av rear handle does the exact same thing. I can go through 2 to 3 tanks of fuel compared to my 137husky. Looking in the tank it is quite noticebly smaller. Ive never really had any problems yet with junk getting in the airfilter. Of course it gets compressed air and bar groove cleaning after each days use when i do use it and a slight teardown
