take off the cover and air filter.

tighten the H & L gently to the stops. open them up CCW 1.5 turns.

turn the idle screw in until it just starts moving the butterfly on the carb.

put the air filter and cover back on.

choke it and give it a few pulls. unchoke it and get 'er started. More than 6 pulls give it choke for a couple more and repeat. Make sure you do the squeeze trigger and press the side button in.

If you need to rev it to keep it idled, turn in the idle adjuster screw 1/8-1/4 turn and try again. once you get that set, you need to adjust the L jet. turn it in until the chain starts moving, then back it off 1/4 turn. let it idle for a minute and then tip the saw over and if it stalls or surges, turn it back in a little - it's too rich, that's extra gas pooling up. you want it rich enough so that you get good throttle response but not too rich as that leads to the stalling.

once the L is set, you set the H. Setting the H is where you want (need) a tach and/or know the sound you're looking for (do a search for madsen's website - it's "hosted" on archive.org since it's really off the air). there are PLENTY of threads on how to set max rpm if you search for them (carb tune tuning adjust are some of the terms to use)

From memory, 011 idles around 2400, clutch engages around 3200 and max rpm is 10.5k. max power might be a tad less than that though.

do all this with the b/c ON the saw.
