I'm looking for a used light saw. A local dealer has an 009 and an 020 professional with the extended rear handle. Both are in great shape and run great. $100 for each. Which should I buy?

OK I get the point. The 020 looks and feels like a better saw, but I really didn't know anything about these models. Never paid too much attention to the small saws, but with my bad back(disk), I'd like to set the big saws down while cutting small firewood.
Thanks for the quick replies,
Scott

im just in the final stage of rebuilding a customers 009. i will share a few views i have on these saws.

first:
the connecting rod bearings are of the loose type, taking the cyl off you slide the connecting rod to the side and let the bearings drop.. very consumer design.

second:
connecting rod is a bit of a joke compared to about any pro saw of any brand.

third:
like my 019T, unguarded transfer port design tends to wear slices into the piston, cutting potential life shorter. wear is very uneven.

fourth:
seemingly VERY undercarbureted and restricted.. making stock performance minimal..

the final conclusion: get the 020 and cut like a madman and drool all over the place! cause life will be good.

The 020 is a pro climbing saw...the 009 is the saw that the local tree companies buy to keep costs down in case it gets dropped out of a tree, or that ou buy because like me your not a pro and you only need a tree saw occaisonally. Good for pruning and homeowner type stuff, but might not last in the work environment as well as the 020. Newer 020s are very light, don't know about the oldies.

repairs

The 020 ONLY if the person will guarantee that it is in good shape.

If you can't understand that statement, you never had to repair a running problem that was caused by a bad carburetor or seal on one. Those that have will understand.
Having repaired many of both, I would not pass by on the 009. But that is just my opinion.

Are we talking about the same saw here Mike? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but are you talking about the new MS200 rear handle? I think he's talking about the 020 AVP, which came out a long time ago. According to Mike Acre's site, the 020 series was introduced in the 70's. You can get them (020 AVP) on ebay for less than $175 for a pristine good one. The MS 200 and the 020 AVP as similar as the 036 and the 361. :)

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, and maybe I'm mistaken. If so, sorry.

I't the 020 from the '70's. I'm going to run the 020 before I buy it to make sure it runs strong. He said I can take it home to test it. It looks like the 020 AVS on Acre's site. It says professional on starter side.

Don't put the 009 down without a thought. I've been running one for years for small fire wood (oak limbs) and I think it's a good, strong piece of equipment, never failed me. I'm told by my dealer they are still the favorite saw of local landscapers.
