I have an 020T that I bought in 2000. It's been the best saw ever. Seems to be getting a little bit weak lately. Especially compared to my 200T that is 3 years old but brand new.

I took the 020 to the shop today to check on a rebuild, wouldn't you know, it's evidentally totaled out and unable to ever cut another limb. The crank has a little play in it. I was advised to purchase a new saw for nearly $700. And I haven't been hearing good things about the 201TC.

I would just like to rebuild my top end. I can do it myself. The saw still starts and runs great. Just a little weak, as with most 16 year old saws. Any advice on where to order the top end and anything I may run into while in there? All help and advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ben.

Which way is the crank moving up and down or side to side? Well any way you should do crank bearings ,crank seals, cyl base gasket, new gas line, new impulse line, maybe get away with new piston and rings instead of a cylinder. Also you want to pressure/ vac test it after rebuild.

Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure which way the play is. I'm going to tear into in this weekend and see. Am I correct that a little in and out play is ok but not up and down?

Yup I have seen them pull that with my friends saws. One of them just had so much dirt in the coil that it wouldn't spark so I cleaned it and it ran.

Any advice on where to order the parts from?
Check the dealor price first then post here and we can take it from there . Until we know what is what we cant do anything. I heard the piston should be reasonable. You may not need a cyl do a compression test before you rip it down. Definitive Dave on this site can get you some nice parts at a good price too. A Farmertech piston with Caber rings runs real good in those.
