Is it reasonable to soup up a 020t (hot saw style) or is this just for the bigger saws?

It can be done.....

And needs to be in my opinion......How radical do you want to go? IE what is your application and main complaints with stock?

You can... but the muffler becomes a PITA to do anything intelligent with...

Most that want to "enhance" just take out the spark screen (don't get caught in the wrong place...) and wind them up to 15k (often the spark arrester removal will do this for you..). Air filter degrades performance quickly though, so keep an extra (clean) in you pocket.

There are a couple of hot saw builders that will do the entire package including porting etc if you desire.

Personally, I just keep mine stock ('ish).

020t

Mine has the spark screen out and I just switched to a two jet carb (H, L, LA) instead of the one jet that it had come with. Also the air filter is now the plastic mesh one, not the paper, its easier to keep clean.
My saw was second hand when I got it and in bad shape, it used to bog down in big cuts, runs like a trooper now, especially since the carb was changed.

Question: the tank vent appears to be a sort of porus stone stuff and its degraded, what's the fix for this?

There is a vent upgrade kit available - 1129 350 5850 - about $11

Secure the tiny vent back to the handle with a small cable tie, or a blob of RTV (bathroom sealer).

Am I talking abut the right thing? Looking from the rear, its on the left side top of the fuel tank, tucked under the air filter housing.
If its $11 for you I'd better bank on over $20 for me here!

Yep... It's a nipple that is pressed down into the tank after digging out the foam (they supply the insertion tool in the kit), a 1 inch section of hose with a vent on top of that. Later models of the 200T have a position in the handle molding to the secure the vent - earlier do not and they can flop around and crack the hose. Secure it as suggested.

I think I'll Try the spark screen and leave it at that for now. Thanks for the info.
