Ever since new, my maybe 14 year old 026 has had a tricky kill switch. After I flip the switch into kill position, I have to push the lever straight down (I don't mean working the lever in the normal swing, I mean straight down) to make the saw quit. Else the contacts don't quite make contact.

Can't believe I've put up with it for some many years. ALways seem like there should be some really easy fix to get the contacts to meet in the normal kill position. I've tried emory paper and contact cleaner and the usual susects but the switch doesn't usually quite killl the saw in the normal stop position.

Can't be the first one that's done this. Any suggestions?

beats me but I have an 015

That sometimes the kill switch works and sometimes it doesn't. Been that way since it was new.. grandpa used to choke it to kill it.. I generally wiggle the switch til it dies.

With the air filter cover off, look at the wire the kill switch has to contact in order to kill the saw. I just added a blob of solder to that wire so the flat copper spring gets a better contact with it. It fixed the hard to stop problem for a few years now. Hope this helps!

Put in a new spring.. The newer version (10 years ago) is much better.... .

Your throttle control lever may also have wear and your case might need a quick adjust with a heat gun.

It's hard to spend more than $10 fixing this..:D

these all sound like a good solution. But for my ol' 024, I just bent the flat spring to give it a little more pressure...It's held up for 10-12 years.
