I have an older 026 that I purchased off Jeff Sikkema and would like to do a muffler mod on it. What's the perferred hole size, location, etc?

Hi Husky,

Start with a couple extra 3/8 holes through the front cover and internal baffle where the spark screen resides. The 026 doesn`t like too much opening in my experience, but you may benefit from 3 extra holes.

If you do this mod right, you will barely notice the visible change and you will still be able to use the spark arrestor.

Hi Husky,

Ben is right about the carb.

The difference is significant enough to be sure of. Does that help?

Another simple and cheap boost that I`ve used is to drop the transfers into the base on the 026 but grinding down there is not for the faint of heart and you want to remember to leave ATLEAST 2mm for gasket sealing around the base. That`s not very much metal, two thin dimes worth, and if you go too far you`re buying new parts. Just something to think about if you like to experiment.

i opened mine some. problem is while it turned higher no load rpm ,i didnt have my tach then,, so couldnt check it in heavy cut. rite now she hold 10.000 easy in cured hardwood., but it mite have done that without touching the muffler, with a little adjusting of the jets. in any case i like it fine like i got it. this by the way with 16 bar which is my preference with this saw.good luck.

You guys have created a monster out of me, I did the mod and sounds like a red headed step child. Hopefully I can run it in some wood Fri. Now I want to mod my whole collection.

ont be surprized if she fades in cut..
my experience dn some from that scream. to get u saw back to holdin its rpm in cut. a lot of this of course,, depends on u chain an bar.. good luck. dont let her scream to high. she mite just give u the silent treatment,, if u do.. not trying to get in u buisiness but i been there. it is not somethin that makes u day ,an thats for sure...to mess up an good saw. :( :( good luck again.

Ok
guy's maybe it was not fast , so that is why you did not answer my post. I thought that it was . doe's anybody on here know how i could get in touch with him? y'trA

Yes "royb`s" 026 is very fast. Not only due to whatever mods he has done but also due to his outstanding chain filing. There, do you feel better now "y'tra", it seems like you were fishing for this sort of statement.

Russ

I was sent an email that Roy Booth "spelling" filed that chain on the 026. I don't know much about Ol Roy just bits and pieces that have funneled down. He was the Original race chain filer. I would like to more about Roy and who his understudies were. Did he come from La Grange Ca or Texas or was it ZZ Top that came from La Grange? To much smokey dopey last nite............

Hello
jokers well yes i was wanting to see if you guy's thought it was fast , and if muffler Mod's was all that he did to it .. I tried to get in contact with him on here but could not. And i did see that his chain was cutting good. i would like to try one of his chains . Or maybe Jokers you could build me one . i see you talk alot about how to do stuff ,so i assume you could do just as good , if you can i would buy a chain and a saw from you. y'trA

Hi y'tra, yes I am the consumate expert on saw and race chain building, I`d be glad to prepare a strand of barb wire for the club I could build for you. As for contacting "Roy B", it`s easy, I`m talking to him right now. Yes, "Roy" builds a great chain and I doubt that 026 only had muffler mods, in fact I wouldn`t believe you if you told me that was the truth.

If you are taking issue with my statement that our resident saw builders probably aren`t doing alot of the more complicated, or fine detail work that doesn`t give large returns to the woods saws they are building, think about what I`m saying. I know that the saw builders aren`t getting rich on woods saws and too many people couldn`t appreciate a good race saw anyway. Besides, I didn`t know that Roy was openly building any saws for anyone on AS.

Don`t take issue so easily, maybe you will notice that people are saying good things about you, err ahh, Roy, or T....

I wonder why people have to sneak up on the dipper when they could just walk up and take a drink. If I want to say something I do; if I think it wiser not to I keep my mouth shut. Others choose to talk from behind their hand or out of the side of their mouth! I wonder why? Perhaps they don't like some of the things I say either, so I guess its a trade.
