I want a saw to do minor clearing and brush cutting...some firewood. My dad has an MS 290 that i have been pleased with, but I have a friend with a standard (not pro) 026 for sale. the price is right, but will i be happy with the power and cutting speed? Any advise would be great!

The 290 is crap compared to an 026. besides, the 026 is lighter, and will live longer, with proper care.

Its kind of like comparing a Wheel Barrow to a Bobcat Or in my oppinion anyway. :)

026 w/ 028 piston

This saw i'm looking at is supposed to have an 028 piston installed in it...I know the guys that did it, and they know what they are doing, but i was wondering if you had heard of that...and whether or not that was a good thing. Thanks!

thanks, this is my first time on this site, but wow, you can really get some good info.

the 026 wouold be the bobcat.

Yup.

I was under the impression the 026 and the 028 had completely Different motors
is a piston swap practical or even feasable?

don't know, maybe the piston and cyl were swapped...It comes from a good source, but i'm not sure exactlly what they did.

The 028 super top end on an 026 is a hot-rod. Go for it. I saw one of these combos on a small hit of nitro run 15,500 rpm in the wood! Your results may (WILL) vary on regular gasoline.

I a 029 in the collection, its an ok saw, but is nothing great its heavy for its horsepower. I have found the China made carb to be a little finicky. Its 6 years old and still has not failed to start.
