I recently bought a 026 pro. saw had a few issues so it was sold as parts saw, though totally complete and running, somewhat.

so today I fire it up and hear a noise that follows engine speed. I think, bearings. I pulled the sprocket and clutch and check end play, nil. flywheel side, agian, no play. bearings seem good and tight. put the starter side back on and start with the clutch side. install the oil worm, washer, and clutch. fire it up, smoke rolls, clutch hot, noise again. pull clutch and worm, fire her up, quiet, no bottom end noise. look at the washer between the oil worm and clutch and it had groves worn into it. so I leave it out and start it again, quiet.
I have a computer based IPL for this saw (thanks ultra) and it shows a washer between the oil worm and clutch. odd thing is the washer I pulled out is marked 1121, (026) and the clutch is 1127 (no clue) my ipl shows this to be the wrong clutch, but I know stihl numbers change almost weekly. so, my question finally is, do I have the wrong clutch on this saw and it doesn't have the room for the washer? my IPL shows a clutch 1121 160 2050

Yes you hit the nail on the head. Here is a late snippet of andy's regarding 024/026 clutches that will probably help you out also.

Clutches have changed over the years.

The latest is actually a -2051

Make sure it's compatible with your saw - the -2000 doesn't use the big protection washer as the carrier is not modified to account for the thickness.

Ahh, Ok. so since I have a clutch with the 'wings' over the springs, I do not use the washer as theres no room for it and the retainer (wings) serve the same function as the washer, ie, keeping a broken clutch spring from tearing up the oil pump or more. a little closer look shows that my clutch spider may actually be marked 1127, and be the correct part.
cool! thanks!

Ralph,

The IPL I have shows two variations on the clutch.

Drop me a PM with the necessary and I'll send it to ya.
