The 16 is real nice on that saw. Are you thinking .325?, that's how mine has always been. I see now that you can get the new 260s with 3/8 too, how does it do with that?

I got the 6813 bar and 26RSC67 .325 pitch chain on mine and it works just fine. A 3/8 chain on a 026 to me is abit much to me but in areas where there is soft wood I guess it would work ok..

Yup, I was surprised they are selling them set up with 3/8.

I think it's adventageous to those who like to run one type of chain on their saws, easier come filing time, easier if you buy by the reel, etc..... For guys or companys who run a fleet of saws it does make a difference. Plus like Tom said, in the right kind of wood the 026/260 will do fine w/ 3/8". Plus I agree 16" B/C is probably the optimum set up for that saw, great limbing saw.

Personally I do run .325 on my 028s and smaller saws, 3/8" for the middies.

That jolts me memory. I recall a long time ago a outfit came in here with alot 029's and 036's, quite few saws as a matter of fact. The man said I'm tired of my guys getting the chains mixed up all the time. He had me put 8921 bars and 3/8's chains on every saw. He said now they can't getem mixed up. The sprockets, bars an chains for all those saws was over 600.00 and he never batted a eye, he was happy they were now all the same.

I ran 3/8 on my 026 for years, so it would match the other saws in the fleet. If it was my only Stihl, I would go with the .325 setup, as Tom metioned.

Thanks guys for the info kinda want a 18 inch bar any opions?

You shouldn't have any problems running 18 in. 3/8 or .325. With a 20in. the weight of the bar puts more weight on the front av dampners then what they support well. With shorter bars you will work your engine slightly less harder and gain slightly more in the cut. For me body comfort and endurance overrides slight power gains or chain speed. Cutting wood on the ground I want 20 in. bars or more and I like the 034 size and up to handle those bars efficiently. Last time I run an 18 in. bar much was on a Husky 55
and if I run it more then 1/2 hour it seemed my back would always hurt from the position it put me in working on the ground. I had a nice o26 pro I was running 20 in.3/8 on and it didn't feel it was slowing down until it was getting into 12 to 15 in. hardwoods (depending on tree species). I had a good offer and sold it,so I started using another 026 that looks and sounds like it had a lot of hard miles.I have extra 16in. bars so for now that is what is on it .I run a o44 with 20in now. The next 026 I revive ( I have a collection of parts, parts & rebuildable 026 saws) I plan on trying an 18 in. 3/8 b&c. to see if my back will agree to it. In reality I usually seem to get more wood cut with the 034 and up saws. I usually cut whole trees for firewood for sale and occasionally sell a small truck load of saw logs. I like the 026 best in tree tops cutting up the smaller limb wood in the air. If you go with .325 pitch I would recomend an 8 tooth sprocket. With a 7 I think you will use more fuel for the amount of wood you cut . I tried the 7 on an 034 and it seemed I didn't get enough wood cut on a tank of gas and was stopping much more often to fill up. If you choose 3/8 pitch you want a 7 which is close to the size of an 8 .325.

Narrow Kerf.

Just bought a Arbor -pro narrow kerf bar ( 16") and 20NK chain. waiting on delivery from Bailey's. was originally for an 024, but came into a 026 so is going on that and the 024 once running.... whole other thread ( 2nd hand saw) is history. don't need two saws....... but might like a bigger one!! lol

anyways, Sawtroll sold me on it. but whats the opinion on the narrow stuff?
