028 WB sprockets won't fit

Not long ago I bought an 028WB. The spur sprocket is well worn so I took the saw to a Stihl dealer near where I work who had an 028 in the bone yard with the rim setup. The rim sprocket on that saw wouldn't fit mine. I bought a 7 tooth spur sprocket later from a different Stihl dealer (close to home) for it and it wouldn't fit either. I contacted Baileys with the SN of my saw and same descr I am posting here. They replied with a part # for a rim setup but no comment on my concerns. I hate to pull the trigger on those parts for fear they won't fit either. Does anyone know if there are different configs on the 028 sprocket setups?

Thanks,

BIG JAKE

There are two different sprockets and oil pump arrangements depending on the serial number. However, you need to be careful on old saws because it may have been converted to the later type already. Either take pictures of the saw clutch area and post them back to this thread on AS, or take the saw to your dealer and let him match up the right sprocket or rim system

Thanks Lakeside I was afraid of that. I'll take some pics and see if I can get them posted. Should've done that to begin with. The one that didn't fit was too big. Saw serial # is 210791717. :bang:

thks,
