I stopped by the Sthil dealer and got a new bar for 028wb he gave me a 3005 810 4717 WL and a 3005 008 4717 WJ. Neither bar will fit. It looks like the groove in the picture is not wide enough. I watched him look the bar numbers up and they seemed to be the correct numbers. any ideas?

Is this the bar they sold you? Can you put up a pic of it's tag?

Looks like in the pic you have a Very-Near caliper in there measuring the slot, what is the measurement in mm? You should be 12.1mm (0.476) to 12.3mm (0.484) bar slot for the 028. Stihl Pro bar mount (Oregon D025) according to http://www.acresinternet.com/cscc.nsf/BMP/31?OpenDocument It been over 20 years since I owned an 028 so I cannot remember for sure.

the caliper picture I just borrowed to help explain where it does not fit. it looks like I needed 3003 and not the 3005 model. thank you for the responses

I will stop back by and swap out the bar. I only stopped by because I was looking for a bar that had Wood Boss written on the bar. My guess is since they had the WB bar he just grabbed the other without thinking. I watched him look it up but sheet happens I probably should have been paying more attention myself. I have been slowly retiring the 028 and doing a little refurbishing along the way. I mostly just use a ms 250/251 I can't remember which it is without looking I guess old timers is starting to sit in on me.
