Hello,
New to this board but have a question on a Stihl 028 WB points saw.
Can I change this saw over to solid state ignition/electronic ingnition?

Yes, there are aftermarket ignition parts you can get that will convert it.

Just update it to an electronic ignition, which may and probably does require a different flywheel. I'm not sure if it does or not, but it may.

how do you know the coil is bad, if it isnt all you need is stihl part# 1118 400 1001, take out the points and condeser and install the trigger unit. your 028 will run better than ever

Go with the aftermarket module. Have not had one fail in 10 years.

Shooter are you still hanging around on here? If so what did you decide to do on the saw? I have a flywheel and coil for the 028 it is a bosch setup and I dont need them, You can ask someone on here with more knowledge if they will fit on your saw, if it will then you can have them both for the price of shipping and then you wont have to worry about a conversion.
