hi all, i just bought a 031 for a parts saw though it looked in great condition. i thought it was too good to be torn apart so i put gas to it. fired and ran great. i gave it a quick tune, it was a little rich on the top end, and took it to the wood pile. i cut for about 15 mins. and it started popping during acceleration, like it was lean. i richened h and L both and it made no difference and kept shutting off. so i put it back on the truck and finished with my other saw. when i got home i took off the carb and pulled the filter and both were clean as can be. i put it back togethere and cut with it. i fell three small ash trees and started to cut them up when it started again. so, i took it back home and put on another coil ,same thing still doin it. this saw cut like a champ when cold but when hot it wont hardly run at all. it does not have the original condensor in it . it has the little black replacement though its still underflywheel. you guys seem to be the @#*% on this kinda stuff. anything will be helpful thanks

Do you mean???

I think you are saying that it has a chip in place of the ponts and condenser?

It sounds like your timing is pretty far off and is causing overheating

the box under the flywheel is very tiny and is not like an atom module. i"ve seen this thing in a kit with new points.

I had a similar problem with an 031. It missed at all speeds (would run at and cut), but would make a spitting noise all the time. Hard to explain. Put a spark tester in the circuit and you could see it was not firing every time. Replaced condenser and solved problem. Tom
