Just bought a 038 Super Magnum II on a auction. Correct me if I am wrong but is this saw a late model 4.5 CI version of the 038 Super. I dont have the specs on this saw but the straight super is a 4.09 CI and the Magnum I is a 4.3. Are these reliable since the original 038 AV was a 3.72? I already have a 038 Super that has been running great since 1983, have cut a shut load of timber and only needed a ignition module, I would say pretty reliable on that one. But what about the Magnum II, great saw or boat anchor? Took my chances, opinions?

Great saw. My 038 AV Magnum II is a German made saw. Very durable - no question about it.

Though the condition and use & maintenance history of an auction saw is always a big question, no matter how potentially great the saw might be. A serious lean seize or even lean running condition can bring the best unit to ruin.

I also have an 038 Magnum, Brazilian production. Don't see any less quality than the German Magnum II.

The 038 had a large amount of different tag lines but I believe the displacement only came in three sizes. Lets see how many tag lines I can remeber 038AV, 038 Super, 038 Farm Boss, O38 Magnum, 038 Magnum II, and the one I do not have 038 Super Pro. Please add more that I missed.

i had thought there was a super Magnum II but I think in retrospect there was only a Mag or a Super not both but could be wrong, do miss my 038 Mag should have never sold it, fell sucker to the first 044, I feel the 038 is superior in toughness.
