Was having running problems so I replaced the carb, runs great. But now it won’t cut. Revs nice, no cut! Swapped out the clutch with a Chinese one and same problem! What am I missing fellas?

I changed the sprocket a bit ago and had same result, no cutting. I can push down enough to stop the chain from rotating, if that helps?!?

Did you check the bar's sprocket tip? It could be locked up and need some lube. Can you pull the chain along with a gloved hand or a rag? You might also see if another bar works and if the chain's gauge is not wider than the bar's gauge. The oiler port or filter could also be blocked and not oiling right. Also, check the tips on the drive links. These can get buggered and lock up the chain.

Wood Doctor. I’ve checked all that you have mentioned brother. The chain is new and sharp so it can’t be the rakers. I’m wondering if there isn’t something bigger going on

The first two pics are the after market clutch and sprocket. The 3rd is the originals

Did you notice the springs are different on the am clutch? Not sure if that would matter.
Farmer Steve I didn’t notice the springs. Both clutches have the same result. I just tried my 20” 029 bar and chain and now it cuts! Gonna try a different chain with the original bar and see what’s up

So your 029 has a 3/8 chain and sprocket too?
Good point, HarleyT. Many guys that upgrade an 029 to an 039 change to a 3/8" pitch chain and sprocket in order to operate a 20" bar/chain. They forget that upgrade also means incompatibility. In this case, however, it looks like a bar and chain from another saw with 3/8" pitch got mounted onto the 039 by mistake.

Look closely at the bar mount bolt closest to the sprocket. There is a flat spot on the top. That should not be there. Maybe the bar (original) was riding up and over and twisting the bar? Putting bar/chain in a bind? jmho  OT
