I got this Stihl chainsaw from my neighbors junk pile.
I have mounted a gas tank off a Ryobi string trimmer on it for testing purposes.
It is missing the recoil/fuel tank and the air cleaner cover. I think it is either a 040 or a 041 model. The number on the plate in this picture is 2567723.
I mounted a piece of 2.5 ID pipe on the flywheel to wrap a rope around so I had some way to see if it would run before I buy a recoil. I did get it to run, but centrifugal force wrecked the pipe, breaking a few flywheel fins, as seen here.
Are the little cogs the recoil grabs on the flywheel too worn down to use?
Because if they are, I will have to get a different flywheel also.
Are all recoils for the 040, 041, 041AV, 041 AVE SUPER, and the 041 FARM BOSS the same?? There are quite a few recoils listed on ebay for the different models.
I dont think I will get an air cleaner cover for this chainsaw, I dont really need it. If I get this chainsaw to run, I plan to power a bicycle with it.
All help is appreciated,
Thanks,
Ryan
