Hi, I am new to the site, began lurking a few months ago when a friend gave me an older 10mm 044. It had an after market P&C, looks like a ring broke.

I am going to split the case and change the bearings. I have a new OEM piston in the mail and have a later 12 mm OEM cylinder thanks. I want to convert to HD-2 filter and have a dual port muffler cover on the way.

I think everything is there except the rewind.

Woot! I finally received my OEM 10 mm piston!

I bought a OEM 12 mm P&C kit from President (Thanks again Keith!) planning to use the cylinder for this saw. I could not find much information on using a 12 mm cylinder on a 10 mm piston. The little I did find was conflicting. It would work fine, can't do it because ring pins are in different locations, or can't do it because skirts were narrower on the 10 mm.

Comparing the 10 mm piston to the 12 mm from the kit, the are very close to being identical.

The skirt on the 12 mm is very slightly wider than the 10 mm:

The ring pins appear to be very close, I'd say the 10 mm are actually a little wider:

The 10 mm piston weighs 1/2 gram more than the 12 mm but the pin is 3 grams lighter.

Am I missing something? I think I'm good to go.
