I run my 044's and 372's with 24-32 inch bars. In west coast softwoods, they pull the 32 just fine, even in stock form, of which few of mine are. However, hard wood slows em down, and regardless, I prefer shorter bars. All depends on the wood being cut, and we have lots of big stuff.
24-28= .375, .50 gauge, semi skip, 28 inches and up, full skip. 16-24 inch=full comp, which I am finally starting to run, but must admit it is smoother and faster. (Smaller saws)
