My 045 rattles quite loudly at idle with the clutch installed, quiet as a mouse without the clutch. When I transferred this clutch to my 056 for a while, that saw rattled similarly. What could cause this? Out of balance, worn shoes/hub? Originally, I though i was chasing a bad rod bearing or loose piston, but the crank is tight and I tried 10 different combos of piston/jug and the rattle was constant.

Thanks, Chris B.

The backing plate is there. I'll stop by my dealer and get a bearing and a set of springs. Are worn springs common? None of my other 045/056s have this problem.

Thanks, Chris B.

Are the clutch shoes faced or solid metal? The metal shoes may rattle. I have also found that the shoe wears at the point where it sits on the spider. The only cure is a new clutch. Check the spring eyes for wear also.
