I have lurking here for over a year and finally have some questions I couldn't find the answer to by searching. I bought an 046 on E-Bay and it has some piston scoring - seller sent me a new piston and a used cylinder which I am going to install myself. Now to the questions; when I pull it apart is there anything I should check, clean, and/or replace? Also does anyone have a service manual they could e-mail me?

I would just get a big bore kit from Bailey's, and put in it. And mod the muffler to a dual port.;) :D  :rockn:

Find out the reasons for the scoring

First off.. Where is the scoring in relationship to the intake ports? There is a reason why the cylinder is scored..

I've been waiting a month for the parts & I haven't really looked at it since I got it. If I remember correctly the cyl. didn't look scored just the piston near the exhasut port, but I haven't tore it apart yet, I only looked thru the ex. port. I'll take another look at it tommarow & post what I find.

I would tear it apart and then post the cylinder and piston pics. You can't tell how much it is scored just by looking through the exhaust port. I would also check the crankshaft seals and crankshaft bearings for slop. But if the cyl. and piston is scored then I would just replace the bearings anyway, just to feel safe that their new.;) :D

I wouldn't replace the bearings unless they need it... that's a heck of a lot more work than most are ready to do... A simply cylinder/piston swap is only an hour at best..

You need NEW OEM base gasket, and NEW piston pin clips. Is the piston you received OEM or aftermarket? Post pic's of you old cylinder - it might be abe to be saved. I'm looking for one..:hmm3grin2orange:

You need to find you why the piston was scored - a pressure test is in order and a carb check/rebuild..

Definitely get a service manual before you start.
