Ad in the weekly rag of an 056 $100. What size bar should this have? Saw one on ebay with 36" (sounds a bit long to me but what do I know). Also age of the saw. Stihl site doesn't list the older saws.

I have no use for a saw this size but the itch is there. To have and to hold till death do us part, what could be better?

At 86 or 89 cc's (I don't remember exactly buit I do know it's up there), 36" bar should be no problem at all. Depends on the condition of the saw for the price of $100. If it still has good compression (weight of saw on pull rope test) and overall condition is good then it probably is worth the money IMO.

Go for it...I would if I were you (but then that's the saw bug in me talking-can never have too many saws)

Thanks guys. Looks like it will be worth a looking over. This is the middle of the Palouse and I can't figure out where a saw that size would have been used. Even in the hey day of logging in the mountains it would have been big. I am sure that by the time the 056 was being built, the big timber was long gone around here.

Having just bought my wife a new 05 ford 500 I wonder if she would be p.o'd at $100 for a saw. Naw, I don't wonder, I -know- she would.

You guys figure in the wife factor when buying saws?

Me + new saw = :D . New saw + wife = :( .

My new saw $98.50; my wife's new guitar $430.00. So that means I have $331.50 for more saws, right?

nope. the fact that it wasn't $400 worth of shoes, makeup, etc negates any parity issues for you to spend on saws. Sorry.

My saw arrived today (thread to follow) & I also won a bid on a lefty 12 string guitar. I can only hope that my wife lets me live long enough to enjoy them  .

Get it, $100 is a good deal if its in good shape. One of the real good Stihls from what I have heard, a little before my time.
