I have an old 064 that idles ok and seems to have full power after it has warmed up. From a cold start it will not idle and the only way to keep it running is to run it at about half maximum speed. I've tried adjusting the jets and I can make it worse, but not better. Another thing - the front of the muffler has a fairly big dent in it. Does this sound like a carburetor problem? Could the dent in the muffler have anything to do with poor idling when cold? Could I have a leaky crankcase?
I would be willing to ship this saw to a mechanic who knows what he is doing. The ones around here are no more knowledgeable than I am, and all I can do is sharpen chains and clean the air filters.

This needs a good visual inspection first, hoses, crank looseness, water in fuel, wiring intact.
Sounds like a candidate for a pressure and vacuum test. If it passes that, head for the carb. A kit and hose check.
Two otherpossibilities, an icing in the carb(remeber, the temp in the venturi is pretty cold, add a little moisture and you have ice) and an ignition that is not changing timing after startup.
