Took DP cover off 066 and put it on 660 last night. With the non-DP cover
on the 066 at idle I could here a noise, pulled clutch (wishful thinking)
could still hear the noise. So I pulled PC, big end of rod has ever so small amount(very, very small) of up and down play, do you think thats the noise. Noise sounds about the speed of the motor. Saw starts and runs very good, It has a MD of 1999. The crank bearings feel smooth as silk. I can not get any play out of the fly wheel or clutch shafts.

Is the saw more likely to let the rod go, or lock up, if I keep running it?

Idea. Sell on Ebay as "great running condition and antique" for $1000. Some loser will buy it. Then you can buy an new saw. Lemme guess, that'n was a stihl. . :censored: You should buy a Husky, their loads better.:chainsaw:

Thanks for enlightning us about your opinion of BRAND,,,, saw quality,,,, and stellar ebay sales practice,,, That's whats wrong with that place now,,,, The man asked a legitimate question do you have a legitimate answer???????

Trigger,,, Side to side on the Big end rod is OK,,,,Vertically is not acceptable,,,,

Period,,,,If you keep running it its gonna fail...................
I gotta good crank if none of the sponsors bite,,,, Let me know

Thanks, I will keep the crank in mind.

How do you know it's the crank? Have you measured it?
I don't even know how they are made. Is the bearing split somehow, so you can change it? Is it a roller bearing?
I had a loose rod on a Briggs recently...filed the cap surfaces lightly to tighten it up and it's doing great.

WOT out of the wood too often and heavy compression are the usualloy the main culprits.

The dead 066, sister of this saw also had a bad big end rod beaning
It had turned dark blue on both ends, it must have got very hot.

I think why I never heard the knocking when I bought this saw,
clutch springs where bad (sounded like a cow bell). I bought springs
and DP cover, installed both at same time, louder DP cover, covered
the knock, with standard cover on I could here the knock at idle
but rpm above about 3000 I can't here the knocking

live and learn now I have $450 in 2 dead 066 :bang:

Trust me, your not the only one that's deep into a saw or two! :monkey:

Cranks are availible, there might even be one on ebay that would fit. ;)

River, Thats sounds good..............But my biggest worry is getting it in,
if it was a 026, what the heck (cheaper saw if I mess up) I would jump
right in.

Thanks

It's exactly the same process as an 026... and there's a thread with pictures to show you..

I have split 026 and 024 hillbilly way (did'nt break anything)
but have not put one back together

I have it booked marked and in print.
I have read it 3 times today :D

And Lake Bread went in the mail Tue. I hope its not to stale
by the time it gets their.

Maybe I should go check the shed! I hope yours are a little better shape the ones I have though. Who did you get 'em from?

Mennonites south of you, A and K, I think. They sell Dolmar and Shindaiwa
Have you been there?
