Just spoke to Ralph @ Bailey's and the 066/MS660 BB Kits that were supposed to be in about right now are back ordered until the end of Feb. due to a flaw with the 56mm pistons. The cylinders are great according to Dean at WHS.
Sooo... My two project 066 are on the self again and my 46s are back on the work bench.
Don't know what my point is, just relaying some info.

As soon as they work the bugs out of the BB kit I'm getting one. Thanks for the info. Bob

I'm getting mine before you Bob.... :hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

.

Yeah....you show-off. :hmm3grin2orange: With all the saws you have you ought to cut a guy a little slack. I'm just a poor four saw outfit with no prospects and here you are sliding my one chance at increased performance right out from under me. Jeeeeez...just ain't no justice in the world. ;)

I here the pistons are catching the crankcases and that they have to start over on the piston development. Also i read where they are going to fly in the first 100 topends, because there is about 55 back orders for them and the rest will be on the slow boat shipped at a much later date.
There has been several builders with these 066BB in hand trying them out from east to west US and Can , but none has given any progress on the builds. So maybe their kits also had the piston problems.

I think I will wait a year or so to let you guys get the bugs figured out and maybe they will have the aftermarket kits figured out then too. To have a 98cc modded 066BB Vroooom.

The stock piston barely clears the oem gasket... so hopefully they will supply a coated steel cylinder gasket (like the OEM) so we aren't back to the packing paper problems and cracked cylinder mounts of the early 90's.

Was that with the 1mm paper gasket? I don't recall breaking any mounting tabs off but I do recall tearing apart quite a number of red light 066s and seeing the paper actually folded in on itself to the point where the engine had a major air leak. What was amazing was that some of them ran for years that way and the rev limiter kept them from blowing up.

I had trouble with the BB piston contacting the crankcase, easy to fix if you don't mind a very little bit of trimming to the base. I would think Baileys will come up with a solution.

If I get the chance I will port the BB this weekend and see what I can find for gains as far as a worksaw.

Nope - the 0.5mm. It's why they changed to the coated steel gaskets in 044 and up. The old redlight cylinders were a problem beauase no body ever checked their cylinder screws and once loose, the problem just get worse.

The 1mm gasket was for low quality or low octane fuels - primarlily in Africa and Eastern Europe. It's now been discontinued.

I get to see all the stuff that cheapstihlsawsparts breaks down, and see a lot more of the broken stuff than most.

Here's one example :

This is the worst I seen - most are just breaks across the mounts. Later cylinders have much beefier mounts...

The prototypes which were sent our to the "special" people will have the same recalled pistons.
There are currenty 14 back orders at Bailey's and the first shipment is supposedly gonna be 500.
This was from Ralph.

I dont know who Ralph is, but i got my info from this man at Bailey's.
Grande Dog-So far the only issues have been a fitment issue with the piston skirt hitting the crankcase. I think this will be easy for the manufacturer to remedy for us. As far as I know, the cylinders are still being tested in their stock configuration. If they hold up there w'ell get them heading to the US. I've got 55 on back order, so I'll probably bring in 100 by air and send the rest by boat. As you can tell by now I'm avoiding giving you a date. There're just to many ifs to nail it down. We want to get them here as much as anybody, so we won't drag our feet.
