Depends on the buyer. If you're doing a lot of sawmilling with an especially long bar, then the G is what you want. If you do a lot of milling with medium and shorter bars, then go for the dorect drive. Or if you need to do some falling, use the direct drive. The G has a 2:1 reduction meaning it has roughly half the chain speed of the direct drive.

I think Jensen was asking which saw cost the most. I'm guessing that with the extra gears, the G would be more expensive.

I would think the 090G would cost more due to the rareness of the G model. The direct drive 090 is still a POWERHOUSE saw, on bars up to about 5' the direct drive would work well, the G is better suited for bars from 5'6" and up, it would work particularly well in my opinion with another 090G on the other end of a 13' double ender bar running .404 chain.

Yes, the G model generally costs more but is a lot more maintenance also. Every gear shaft in the housing has a roller ball bearing on both sides of the shaft. These saws can take a lot of punishment but when one bearing starts going out, then it doesn't take long for ALL of them to go out.

Are these bearings a problem to get? I'm still waiting on the handle and sprocket for my G, its on back order.

Should I take the cover off, and inspect the bearings and gears in mine?

The several 090Gs I've seen on the used market went for less than an 090. They're primarily attractive to guys with big slabbing operations. Racers want a real 090, collectors who want the biggest saw want a real 090, folks who do normal large woodcutting want an 090. Faster, larger, and more powerful.

They probably cost more new, however.

Butch- JimL is correct, the 090G uses needle rollers, I was thinking of the Mac 940G. Even so, the needle rollers wear out also. Look for shaft play in any of your gear shafts and the PTO end of your crank.

Hmmm... it seems my baby G may need a 'lil TLC. I don't care... so far. I just wanna keep it in tip-top shape, I really ain't worried 'bout the price. I've blown money on less deserving stuff before.

I can't wait to put it in some wood!!!:blob2:

I got a muffler for my G sitting on back order too :D

upper or lower, I got a lower missing a corner of the right screw where mounted to the tank..
Im waiting on my muffler, Won't run the saw another restoration

Alls I have is the throttle part. All of it will have to be replaced, its a two part handle. But then I can rock and roll!:)

The lower part of the handle on the 090 is part #1106-791-7600. The 090G is a 1109 series but I would assume the handle support is the same. I ordered on and it took a couple weeks but it did come in.
