premise

Some townships and boroughs around here have free dumping for tree debris and a location with a tub grinder to dump at. They don't want you to run it through a chipper, they want limbs and all to tub grind. You call the Municipal office and ask when you work in the area and they tell you where it is located. You call to check the tree cutting rules or work hours in an area first anyway don't you? Ask if they do the trees for chips for their parks or if they want your chips for their parks and trees. A miniute of your time can save you $$ and dumping drive time.

Fly by night hacks usually don't ask, they are in and gone, but if you run a company this is something you should be doing when you work in a new area, some have tree rules some don't but most have hours you can work and make noise. In the the summer you like to get an early start and if you call you may find out you can't start till 9:00am. Sometimes they will let you start early but don't run the chipper till 9:00am, it beats paying a fine if the neighbors complain and the police show up to write you up. Most often they tell you the rules and ask you to shut down till then. It is just better to call first and find all this out before hand. If you don't ask you'll never know and don't expect the customer to know, they just want you to fix the trees. If you don't ask questions you'll never get the answers.

Er... Geofore-the premise I was referring to was that of typing in a line and saying"they are this big-How much? You made a good point I just want to be clear about what I was ridiculing.

got it

I thought that because I don't hear it talked about I should say something about the green stuff being done. I had a customer ask for a discount price when he found out the township was taking his debris, no charge for their tub grinding. He thought he should not have to pay for the removal of trees. I told him he could load and haul them himself if he wanted "free" disposal. He said he didn't accually use his pickup truck for a truck, was afraid he might scratch the paint. As silly as discribing it as this------- big, what price. One phone call and I found out they took trees and NO ONE does tree work in the area on Sundays except for emergencies or the police come out and write you up, that includes homeowners, you don't mow your grass on Sundays either. Customer said he wanted the work done on weekends and that it was okay. He didn't want to pay the fines so there were no weekends. It just put me in mind of this customer when he discribed the trees over the phone and asked how much, agrees to the price after I look at the trees then wants to get a better price when he finds out where his trees end up. They were only this--------- big over the phone and twice that when I saw them. Not often do you get a customer that understates the size, but almost all want to try for a better price.
