How easy are these to change? any problem pulling the bearings out considering that the rotating assembly is heavily weighted? Is there any place besides the Vermeer dealer to get bearings for this thing?
Thanks for the help

Source of bearings for Vermeer 1600 chipper

We buy all our bearings from Motion Industries for our chippers and stump grinders. Any bearing company can cross to their brand. A heck of a lot cheaper than vermeer. We go to them last. Good luck

Drum Bearings

Usually you have to have some type of lift to get the drum or disc out of the chipper. Set it on the ground as you will to cut the bearings off of the shaft. You will need a ziz wheel to cut the bearings off and the collar as well. You will need emory paper to clean the bearing seat off of the shaft. If you find a deep groove on the shaft, it might need to be replaced as well. You don't want the bearings spinning on the shaft. If it is a pillow block bearing, you will need to pack the bearings with a hi-temp grease by hand like you would with an axle bearing. Be careful when purchasing bearings as there is a difference between ball and spherical bearings. Ball bearings won't last long due to the weight and rpms the drum or disc turns.

I hope this helps.
