Please help, the cutter wheel keeps moving after i'm done grinding and the clutch is disengaged, I believe this is a hydraulic clutch? It is a major pain, you can slow it down if it doesn't get going too fast, yet it will start going again and gets faster with momentum, this seems to be worse when the machine is good and warmed up. Word to the wise, do not buy one of these machines! Bought it used 3 years ago and have put over $15,000 in repairs! I have 2,000 hours on a 252, 1,200 hours on a 352, and 1,000 hours on a 630B and no major problems all combined, vermeer didn't do very good with this tracked p.o.s., yet when it is running, it tears it up!

On the clutch pressure plate there are 3 pivoting fingers. These fingers pivot on a hardened pin to disengage the clutch disk. One of your pins is broken and the clutch cant fully disengage. If your fortunate enough to have a clutch rebuilder in your area you can pull the clutch and they can replace the pin. Vermeer will stick it to you for a clutch. I dont know what year but the clutch is from and older International Scout. By the way the clutch is operated by and electric jack witch is located on the operator side of the motor. If you have not been greasing the zerk fittings for the shaft that the motor turns ( one on each side) it could be binding and not fully disengaging as well.

SC50tx clutch not disengaging

I do grease the shaft zerks regularly. I have adjusted the clutch, using the hydraulic jack you spoke of, as the vermeer manual explains, it would work for a couple hours or so, then it would go right back to moving on me again! Is there a way of pulling the clutch and matching it that way, or does vermeer have to supply it? I have went rounds with the vermeer near me and would rather never step foot in there again, I get along with the parts and service director fairly well if need be.

Took it apart

So got it apart, one of the pins you spoke of was loose, and there was a bunch of oil in the bellhousing, removed the flywheel and it appears that the main seal is blown, which would explain everything, was burning oil as well. Any advice on changing that main seal and/or where to get a clutch other than vermeer? The parts manual doesn't even have the clutch in it, so is it from Caterpillar? Anything helps?

I am fortunate to have a clutch builder not to far away. I took the clutch to them and they had no problem identifying it, Thats how I new it was used in the early IH Scouts. Check and see if there is a clutch rebuilder close to you. As i remember Vermeer gets something like 600.00 for that clutch, the rebuild on mine was like 126.00. The seal can come from Caterpillar or Perkins. Perkins builds all of Cats small diesels.

Ouch...

Is there anyway I could get there phone number to call and ask them if they could give me any ideas on how I can match it? Or at least your city and their company name? Please....!!!

Thank you, but I already had it shipped to be rebuilt, gonna have to run the 252 until it gets back. There was a place here in town that did the total clutch, flywheel, and pressure plate rebuilds, but they went out of business last year, seems like high demand, nobody within miles does it, might have to change professions lol.
