We have a 2007 ford bucket truck at work. We are havong a strange sound coming from (what I can tell) the turret area. The sound is close to the sound of a bolt snaping. We had the safty inspector out today and naturaly the sound was not there. It is speratic. Does not happen on a up down movement and the bucket has to be almost fully extended. Only happens on a left to right or right to left movement. I can almost feel the poping in the body of the truck. I can also put the sound as being a leaf spring unloading. body flexing and things poping but closer to a bolt being snaped. Has any one else experanced this sound before? I am not sure of a better way to explain it. We may end up red flagging the truck untill we can get it inspected. Was just looking for some input. OH we were low on hydrolic fluid, put in 5 gal. this morning. Would this make a pop sound with it being low on fluid?

Check the main bearing bolts, sounds to me like they may be a little loose, the sound your hear may be bearing slap, big trouble if let go, the torque spec on them very, but usually around 400-500lbs, check with the manufacture for specs, get a BIG torque wrench and check all the bolts, you might find one that is broken or loose. Usually if your low on hydraulic fluid, you will hear the pump struggling.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info I am sure we are going to send it in to the shop It is beyond me.

A guy I know has a bucket and when you would get half way up it would make a popping noise. Then one day it popped and a cable broke and dumped the bucket! The cable had a kink or something in it and it broke. They had it in the shop and could not find anything wrong. Make sure you are wearing a full body harness!
